Martens were engaged to provide engineering design of the stormwater management system, including water quality and flood mitigation works, for a medium density residential development at Rooty Hill in Sydney’s western suburbs. Hydrological, meteorological, site survey data and site observations were used to construct detailed hydrological and hydraulic models for the site and connection Council infrastructure.

Site development in a local context was part of an ongoing residential redevelopment of Rooty Hill and surrounding suburbs, with existing low density development (single dwellings) being replaced with medium density residential development.

Project scope included:

  • Determination and documentation of minimum drainage requirements to convey design storm event through the site including all on-site detention structures, pits, pipes and culverts.
  • Design and documentation of water quality measures to improve quality of stormwater discharges to downstream areas.
  • Determination of existing and proposed flood levels with respect to the site drainage to ensure proposed site drainage measures did not adversely impact on neighbouring development.
  • Integration with existing Council road drainage infrastructure to ensure site outlet conformed with Council requirements.
