Martens were engaged to prepare detailed soil and water management plans for a private hospital development in Penrose.

Martens were engaged to prepare detailed soil and water management plans for a private hospital development in Penrose, a town in the NSW southern highlands. Soil testing and hydrologic data were used to determine site soil and water constraints and opportunities, and formed the basis of a detailed soil and erosion control system design.

Earthworks undertaken during the early stages of development construction raised significant soil and erosion control issues. Rehabilitative soil and erosion systems were required to minimise site soil loss and downstream waterway pollution. Multiple site inspections were undertaken to supervise construction and ensure works were executed in accordance with the design.

Project scope included:

  • Assessment of soil erosion risk with reference to local soil testing, topographical and environmental features
  • Recommendations for remedial works
  • Design of multiple soil and erosion control systems in accordance with the Landcom (2004) ‘Blue Book’
  • Site inspections and construction supervision
