Martens were engaged to prepare flood modelling for a proposed medium density residential development at Rooty Hill NSW, consisting of 78 dwellings with associated backyards, driveways and common open spaces.
The site was significantly affected by flooding from the local upstream catchment. Martens designed a trunk drainage system with associated site re-grading, in accordance with the flood mitigation strategy for the site. Due to the geometrical restraints on this project, the proposed driveways, common open spaces and private yards were designed as the main overland flow paths, to contain and direct the 100 year floodwaters away from the buildings and through the site to the downstream street.
