Martens were engaged to provide engineering design services for a stormwater capture, treatment and irrigation supply system for the existing Roseville Golf Course, Roseville, NSW.

Martens were engaged to provide engineering design services for a stormwater capture, treatment and irrigation supply system for the existing Roseville Golf Course, Roseville, NSW. The project used hydrological and hydraulic data and modelling, site survey and golf course irrigation demand analyses, to design minimum requirements for the proposed stormwater treatment, storage and re-use systems.

Roseville is an urban area located in Sydney’s northern suburbs. The locality is largely urban residential development with some residual bushland along drainage lines and several parks and recreational areas. This project consisted of the addition of a storage dam, stormwater capture, treatment and transfer / discharge system adjacent to an existing drainage line running through the subject site and discharging to Middle Harbour. Maintenance of environmental flows and improvement of the quality of urban stormwater discharges to Middle Harbour were key objectives in the engineering design.

Project scope for both Development Application and Construction Certificate stages of the development included:

  • Design of stormwater re-use off-take from the existing channel through the golf course, including detailed analyses of catchment discharges for a range of rainfall events to determine sizing of stormwater capture and treatment system and to minimise flood impacts on the adjacent golf course.
  • Specification of minimum water quality measures to treat captured stormwater.
  • Design of treated stormwater transfer system to the storage dam and discharge system for overflows back to the channel.
  • Detailed design of site irrigation storage dam (including structural and geotechnical design), irrigation supply and transfer system.
  • Flood mapping and impact assessment.
  • Site earthworks design.
  • Site creek rehabilitation works design.
  • Provision of construction sediment and erosion control plans.
  • Certifications of site works.

Specific scope for water supply servicing included:

  • Hydraulic and hydrological design – including structural design – of system offtake and return, water quality treatment structures, temporary storage tank, specification of system pump and rising mains to irrigation dam, system manual and automated valves and control infrastructure.
  • Specification of irrigation transfer pumps and mains to golf course irrigation system.
