Martens and Associates were engaged to address requirements for the expansion of Bass Point Quarry, NSW.

Martens and Associates were engaged to address requirements of a Project Approval issued by NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DoPE) for the expansion of Bass Point Quarry, NSW. Killalea Lagoon is a nearby sensitive receiver and considered ecologically significant. A specific management plan for the lagoon was required to ensure no adverse impacts arose on this environment resulting from surface or groundwater management at the site.

The proposed expansion involved replacement of existing plant infrastructure and expansion of quarrying operations to allow extraction to -40 mAHD. Ongoing site management and monitoring was therefore required to ensure impacts arising from water quality and changes to surface water and groundwater flow regimes do not occur.

The management plan involved:

  • Site groundwater monitoring and sampling.
  • Identification of potential impacts arising from surface and groundwater.
  • Preparation of a surface and groundwater monitoring plan including developing trigger values and a long term monitoring regime.
  • Preparation of a long term management regime, including auditing and reporting requirements.
  • Consultation and collaboration with various government agencies and stakeholders.
