Martens were engaged to prepare a flood assessment and flood risk management strategy for a proposed tourist accommodation development at Emu Plains, NSW.

Martens were engaged to prepare a flood assessment and flood risk management strategy for a proposed tourist accommodation development at Emu Plains, NSW.

The site and the surrounding urban landscape are found within a ‘flood island’ during extreme Hawkesbury River flood events, with probabilities less than the 1 in 100 year ARI event. Approximately 3,000 residences and the local commercial centre are contained within the flood island. The risk management strategy was developed to provide a suitable strategy for the proposed development.

Project scope included:

  • Hawkesbury River flood behaviour in the local area analysis
  • Concept flood modelling for flood characteristics at the site
  • Determination of flooding mitigation requirements
  • Preliminary design of site earthworks and stormwater drainage system to accord with the flood mitigation strategy
  • Flood risk assessment and management strategy
