Martens were engaged to prepare a detailed hydrogeological assessment to support an Environmental Assessment (EA) associated with the proposed deepening and expansion of a quarry at Somersby, NSW.
A range of data such as rock core logs, hydraulic testing results and monitored groundwater levels were utilised to develop a conceptual and subsequent numerical groundwater MODFLOW model to assess the impact of the proposed development on groundwater levels and baseflow.
The quarry is situated in a region with a significant number of groundwater bores which access sandstone aquifers. Consequently, in accordance with the NSW Aquifer Interference Policy (2012), it was important that drawdowns at surrounding bores and Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs) were assessed.
